Highlanders HLQ Pro

HLQ Pro is the load-carrying quadruped of Highlanders, the University of Tokyo spin-off better known for its HL Human humanoid. Announced with a beta programme on 8 May 2025, it was aimed from the start at organisations that send people into places nobody wants to walk: national fire and disaster-prevention agencies, chemical plant operators and infrastructure companies. The machine weighs about 60 kg without protective gear and folds down to 440 × 880 × 570 mm when resting, standing up to 980 mm to work. Twelve electrically driven joints move it at up to 2.5 m/s, over 30 cm steps and up 35-degree inclines, and it will carry 20 kg provided the load is balanced. A battery good for up to four hours covers a full inspection shift. Obstacles are detected by LiDAR and a 3D camera, and the gait itself is not scripted: the manufacturer uses reinforcement learning to retune the walking pattern in real time as the ground changes. An IP54 rating covers dust and splashing water, and control runs over 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11 b/g/n). Highlanders targeted a full commercial release in 2026; no list price has been published. Since 2026 the company describes its hardware as the data-collection half of a loop feeding Kepler, its physical-intelligence foundation model.
