HMND 01 Alpha is the first robot from Humanoid, a London company founded in 2024 that in July 2026 became Europe's first pure-play humanoid-robotics unicorn. The machine stands 179 cm, weighs 90 kg, carries 15 kg of payload and moves at up to 2 m/s with roughly four hours of runtime. It has 29 degrees of freedom and a modular wrist: either a 12-DoF five-finger hand or a single-DoF parallel gripper, depending on the job. What the company emphasises is not the hardware but the schedule. Humanoid says the Alpha was designed and built in five months and that its reinforcement-learning whole-body controller produced stable walking after 48 hours of training. The repertoire it demonstrates — straight and curved walking, turning in place, sidesteps, walking backwards, squatting, squat-walking, hopping and running — is driven by that learned controller rather than scripted gaits. Perception runs on head-mounted RGB cameras with two depth sensors, plus 6D force/torque and haptic sensing at the contacts; the software layer is KinetIQ, a four-layer proprietary stack on NVIDIA compute. The commercial context arrived on 21 July 2026, when Humanoid closed a 152 million dollar Series A at a 1.35 billion dollar post-money valuation, led by Prime Movers Lab with Schaeffler, Bosch, Fubon Financial Holding Venture Capital and Aglaé Ventures participating, taking total funding to about 270 million. Two of those investors are also customers or suppliers: Schaeffler has ordered 1,000 robots and Bosch is lined up for manufacturing capacity reported at up to 100,000 units. Humanoid's next step is a wheeled Beta platform aimed at the fourth quarter of 2026, targeting manufacturing, logistics and retail deployments.
