ROBAN 2 is the second generation of Leju Robotics' mid-size biped, and the machine the company sells to schools rather than to factories. Leju describes it in plain terms as an embodied-AI teaching and development platform, aimed at the whole chain from vocational colleges through undergraduate to postgraduate courses, and it publishes a curriculum alongside it: motion control (kinematics, gait planning, reinforcement-learning control), perception (computer vision, multimodal fusion, SLAM) and embodied AI in the middle, where the two meet. What makes the product worth reading carefully is that it is not one robot but four. Leju's own comparison sheet lists a Nimble edition and Advanced editions A, B and C, and the gap between the cheapest and the dearest is not cosmetic. The Nimble edition has 23 degrees of freedom, five-finger passive hands, no lidar, no camera at all and no high-compute module — and, consistently with that, it is the only version that does not support autonomous localisation and navigation. Advanced A adds a lidar, a depth camera and a 117 TOPS compute module to the same 23 joints. Advanced B keeps that sensor set but swaps the hands for a two-finger gripper and gains two joints, to 25. Advanced C is the serious one: 45 degrees of freedom and genuinely dexterous five-finger hands. Everything else is common to all four: an RK3588 as the base compute module, hot-swappable batteries — two of them — a game controller in the box, large-model question answering, and support for programming and further development. The callouts on Leju's own diagram are equally telling about the intended user: an emergency-stop button on the back, a programmable LED strip, wireless microphones, and a body Leju advertises as drop-resistant, which is what a robot needs when a room full of students is learning to make it walk. The software side is unusually open for a Chinese humanoid at this price bracket. Leju publishes a multi-language SDK, a simulation platform with model files and physics simulation, an imitation-learning glove, graphical control software with a remote, and a fault-detection tool, on top of a control stack built on EtherCAT motor control and an IMU. One caveat: Leju does not publish a height, a weight, a runtime or a price on the ROBAN 2 product page, and its own material dates nothing. The figures above come from the comparison sheet the company publishes as an image; the 2025 launch year follows Chinese trade reporting rather than the manufacturer.
