Midjourney at its fastest — and the first version to render 2K images without upscaling.
Midjourney V8.1 was released on 14 April 2026 and was the platform default from 10 June to 23 July 2026. The producer calls it the fastest model in the line, with standard jobs rendering roughly four to five times faster than earlier versions, alongside better prompt reading and retention of small details. Its headline feature is HD: native 2048-pixel images generated without a separate upscaling step. HD is charged in GPU time rather than money — 1.3 minutes per job against 0.8 for standard, about 63% more. Inpainting and outpainting tools downscale HD results back to standard resolution.
