Mistral OCR 3
Mistral AI · France · 2025
The document reader Mistral still sells at half the price of its own successor.
Mistral OCR 3, released on 18 December 2025, is the version of Mistral's document reader that the company kept on the price list after replacing it. It extracts interleaved text and images from documents, supports structured annotations and runs through the batch endpoint, and it is the last version before the OCR 4 line added paragraph-level bounding boxes and typed block labels. Its commercial position is the interesting part: at two dollars per thousand pages, and three with annotations, it costs exactly half of what Mistral charges for OCR 4. A buyer who does not need to know where on the page each answer came from — plain transcription for search or archiving — is therefore paying double for OCR 4 to obtain layout data they will never read. Mistral marks OCR 3 as generally available rather than deprecated, and states that it remains available for existing integrations and production workloads.
