Half-height 118 cm humanoid built for dynamic motion — running, jumping and backflips — and sold in China at a price that undercuts most research platforms by an order of magnitude.
The N2 is a knee-high-to-chest-high humanoid from Noetix Robotics, a Beijing manufacturer that trades as Songyan Dynamics. At 118 cm and 30 kg it sits deliberately below the full-size class: less mass to accelerate, less energy to dissipate in a fall, and a platform a single person can lift onto a bench. The company positions it as a machine for dynamic locomotion rather than manipulation — it walks and runs on reinforcement-learning gaits, jumps, and performs backflips, which is what most of its public appearances demonstrate. The hardware is modest by design: 18 degrees of freedom, joints rated to 150 Nm peak torque, a quick-swap 48 V lithium pack good for about two hours, and an onboard compute budget quoted at 67 TOPS with 3D vision. Control is exposed through both high-level and low-level motion APIs, with Python, C++, ROS and Linux supported, which is the usual shape of a university and lab platform. Two figures in circulation deserve care. Speed is quoted as 2 m/s on the distributor datasheet and 3.2 m/s in press coverage; we carry the datasheet figure and note the higher one as a demonstration claim rather than a rated value. Price is the larger gap. In China the robot has been announced from 39,000 yuan — roughly $6,200 — which is the number that made it notable. On RBTX, the European marketplace run by igus, the same model is listed at $34,072.50 excluding VAT, and marked as currently unavailable with a 42-56 day lead time. A buyer outside China is therefore looking at more than five times the headline price, before tax and shipping. The N2 belongs to the wave of Chinese sub-metre humanoids that turned up in competition rather than in factories: machines of this class run in the Beijing humanoid games and the humanoid half-marathon, where cheap, replaceable and quickly repaired matters more than payload.
