The image model ChatGPT used to draw with, kept alive in the API until December 2026.
chatgpt-image-latest is the counterpart of the chat aliases: it points to the image snapshot previously used inside ChatGPT, offered in the API so that developers could match what users saw in the product. OpenAI recommends GPT Image 2 for new work. The card is unusually thin. It lists text and image input and image and text output, inpainting as the sole named feature, and no context window or knowledge cutoff at all — details that matter for a language model and much less for a drawing one. Pricing is USD 5 per million input tokens, USD 1.25 cached and USD 10 per million output tokens, well below the USD 8 and USD 30 charged for GPT Image 2. Its end is already scheduled. OpenAI's deprecation table sets the shutdown for 1 December 2026, with GPT Image 2 as the replacement. Until then it remains the only way to reproduce the look of images ChatGPT generated in its previous image generation, which is precisely the reason to keep a record of it here.
