Serve Gen3

Serve Gen3 is the third-generation sidewalk delivery robot from Serve Robotics of Redwood City, California, a company that grew out of the delivery-robot team at Postmates and began operating under its own name in 2021. The robot is a four-wheeled, lidar-guided cooler on the pavement: it travels at pedestrian pace, carries food and small parcels the last mile, and is dispatched mainly through Uber Eats. The Gen3 generation, rolled out from late 2024, was designed for scale rather than demonstration. Battery capacity rose about 67 percent, taking range from 23 miles and 10 hours in Gen2 to 48 miles and 14 hours - roughly a full working day without a charge. Top speed went from 7 to 11 mph and emergency braking became 40 percent faster. Cargo volume is around 13 gallons, enough for four 16-inch pizzas, with a payload of about 50 pounds. The body is rated for weather from -4 to 113 degrees Fahrenheit and heavy rain, which is what separates a robot that works in Los Angeles from one that works in Chicago. Onboard sits NVIDIA Jetson Orin compute with an Ouster REV7 digital lidar and an upgraded sensor suite. The interesting part of Serve is not the hardware but the trading statement behind it. In the second quarter of 2026 the company reported revenue of 3.2 million dollars, up 404 percent year on year, with 792 robots working on an average day and more than 2,000 units deployed since 2021 across 44 cities in 14 states and over 150 neighbourhoods. It also cut its full-year guidance to 9-10 million dollars. Both halves matter: this is one of the very few robot fleets with real customers and recurring revenue, and it is still a business measured in single-digit millions. Sidewalk delivery has proven it works; it has not yet proven it pays.
