Tiangong Omni

A 1.35 m, 39 kg humanoid sold as an open base for other companies to build on — and, three days after launch, champion of the 400 m small class at the Beijing robot games.
Tiangong Omni is the lightweight member of the Tiangong family from the Beijing Innovation Center of Humanoid Robotics (X-Humanoid), unveiled on 20 August 2026 at the World Robot Conference in Beijing. It stands 1.35 m and weighs 39 kg complete, with a stated but unquantified payload, and the centre aims it at narrow spaces, emergency response and domestic service. What separates it from the centre’s earlier machines is the business model rather than the hardware. Omni is offered as an open base: the joints, the sensors, the system layer and the motion-control API are all exposed for third-party development, and the centre presents it as a Humanoid Native platform combining perception-driven mobility with whole-body general control. Chief executive Xiong Youjun has been explicit that the point is a cheaper, mass-producible standard platform other manufacturers can build on rather than a machine competing head-on with Songyan Dynamics or Booster Robotics, and that the centre intends to put most of its own effort into the control and reasoning layers on top. Three days after launch the robot won the 400 m small-class final at the second World Humanoid Robot Games on 23 August 2026, in 45.66 s, on the same afternoon that the larger Tiangong Ultra took the big-class title in 38.15 s. Omni ran with one arm held up in front of its face, a posture that drew attention in Chinese coverage; the team said it was not copied from a human demonstration but emerged from the robot’s own reinforcement learning. The same executive is candid about the wider picture: the return on investment for humanoids entering factories still lags industrial robots and human workers, in his words, though the gap is closing quickly. No price and no deployment figures have been published.
