Tianyi is the second machine in the catalogue of Beijing's state-backed humanoid centre, and the pragmatic one. Where Tiangong walks, Tianyi rolls: an omnidirectional wheeled base carries a humanoid upper body with two seven-DoF arms and a chest screen, and the torso itself lifts, so the robot works anywhere between 130 and 165 cm without changing platforms. That is the difference between reaching a floor-level parcel and reading a switch cabinet at eye height. The 2.0 revision, sold today, is a heavier and much more articulated machine than the original Tianyi shown in Beijing in December 2024 (163 cm, 72.5 kg, 16 degrees of freedom). It weighs 88.5 kg, carries 35 degrees of freedom in total — three in the head, fourteen across the arms, two at the waist, two for the lifting legs, two in the base and twelve in a pair of dexterous hands — and runs for over two hours on a 48 V, 15 Ah pack. Sensing is built for indoor service work rather than terrain: an RGBD camera in the head, two RGBD plus one RGB on the base, a single-line LiDAR and a four-microphone linear array for speech. Compute is a single NVIDIA Jetson AGX Orin 64 GB at 275 TOPS, and the software stack is conventional where it can afford to be — Ubuntu 22.04 with a ROS 1 control layer — while the decision-making comes from the centre's Huisi Kaiwu platform. Internally the robot runs CAN/EtherCAT at 500 Hz to 1 kHz, with the arms updating at 200 Hz or better and the hands at 20 Hz. The centre pitches one machine for several jobs — "patrol at night, reception by day" — and lists guided tours, security inspection with autonomous door opening and instrument reading, and VR or cockpit teleoperation where one operator supervises several robots. Its public credential is the scenario contest at the 2025 World Humanoid Robot Games in August 2025, where Tianyi 2.0 units took both first and second place in materials handling, operating autonomously.
