Walker S1

Walker S1 is the industrial humanoid UBTech put into Chinese car plants in 2024, and it matters less for what it can do than for where it did it. While most of the field was publishing laboratory footage, S1 was carrying out quality inspection, parts handling and logistics work inside real factories - BYD, Zeekr, Foxconn and Dongfeng among the named sites - long enough to produce the thing this industry rarely has: operating hours in a production environment with a customer's name attached. UBTech is unusually specific about the problems it had to solve to get there, and they are the unglamorous ones. Visual positioning that survives changing factory lighting; whole-body motion control that stays stable when the load in the hands changes mid-task; and joint cooling, because a humanoid that walks a shift heats its actuators until they derate. The answers are a high-resolution RGBD vision stack, a learning-based whole-body controller rather than hand-tuned gaits, semantic visual SLAM for navigation that understands what a pallet or a doorway is, and a large language model on top for task planning, so an operator can state an intent instead of scripting a sequence. The physical figures - 172 cm, 76 kg, 41 degrees of freedom, 15 kg payload, roughly 3 km/h walking and about two hours of continuous work - come from distributor listings and trade databases, not from UBTech, whose own product page describes capabilities and publishes no numbers at all. Those two hours are the honest limit of this generation and explain the design of its successor: the Walker S2 of 2025 keeps the same broad body but swaps its own battery, turning a two-hour machine into a round-the-clock one. S1 remains in the catalogue as the model that established UBTech's order book, which passed 800 million yuan across the Walker series by late 2025. No list price has ever been published; the robot is sold on project contracts.
