Unitree GD01
Unitree Robotics · China · 2026
A 2.8-metre piloted mecha that folds from two legs to four — Unitree's strangest product, and the first of its kind offered for sale.
Unveiled on 12 May 2026, the GD01 is a 2.8-metre machine with an open cockpit for a human pilot, able to switch between bipedal walking and a four-legged crawling mode in seconds. Unitree describes it as the world's first production-ready manned mecha: roughly 500 kg with the pilot aboard, 36 degrees of freedom, electric actuators, priced from $650,000 before tax and shipping. The company points at theme parks, immersive entertainment, film production and rescue work rather than industrial deployment, and the launch video shows the machine breaking through a cinder-block wall. It is best read as a demonstration of how far Unitree's actuator and balance stack has come, wrapped in a vehicle nobody strictly needs.
