R1-D is the half of a humanoid that Unitree sells separately: a torso with a head, two articulated arms ending in two-finger grippers, bolted to a flat mounting plate. Despite sharing the R1 name it does not walk and has no legs — it is a stationary dual-arm platform for benches, carts and fixed workcells, aimed at laboratories that want humanoid-shaped manipulation without the balance problem. The shop lists four configurations, R1-A5 and R1-A7 plus D versions of each, where the number matches the axes per arm; only the entry R1-A5 carries a real price of 4,290 USD, while the other three show Unitree's placeholder figure and are effectively quote-on-request. What the manufacturer promises is openness rather than performance: a high-performance compute module on board, RGB and depth interfaces exposed from the binocular head, open programming interfaces and a wrist that takes different end effectors with a quick change. What it does not publish is almost everything a buyer would compare — mass, reach, payload per arm, joint torque, degrees of freedom in the waist and neck, or power draw. Until Unitree issues a datasheet, this profile deliberately leaves those fields empty rather than repeat the numbers circulating in resellers' listings.
