Japan's first commercially sold humanoid: a 110 kg wheeled machine that rises from 129 to 159 cm, from 5 million yen.
D1 is a compact service humanoid announced on 5 August 2026 by ZEALS, a Tokyo conversational-AI company founded in 2014, through its robotics arm Omakase Robotics. Sales and deployment consultations opened the same day at a price from 5 million yen per unit plus a support and OS subscription from 20,000 yen a month, which makes it the first humanoid on open commercial sale in Japan after a hospital trial. The dimensions are the design. The torso sits on a 300 mm lifting column, so the machine works anywhere between 129.3 and 159.3 cm tall: low enough to pass under and through Japanese fittings, tall enough to reach a counter or a bed rail. It weighs 110 kg, needs about 65 cm of clear width to get through a gap, and moves on a six-wheel differential base with zero-turn capability at up to roughly 1.2 m/s, holding position to about five centimetres. Each arm reaches 615 mm from shoulder to wrist and carries up to 5 kg. Navigation runs off two lidars in the base and four fisheye and wide-angle cameras, on an NVIDIA Jetson controller under Ubuntu 22.04. A 48 V, 56 Ah battery gives about eight hours of work and recharges to 80 per cent in four to five hours, which the company matches to a standard shift. The software side is what ZEALS actually sells: AI-driven conversation, reception and guidance, indoor navigation and multilingual support, drawing on a decade of the company's chat-commerce work. The validation behind the launch is a proof-of-concept at the University of Tsukuba Hospital - Japan's first humanoid trial in an active medical setting - which ZEALS reports as finishing with zero human contacts and zero falls. The company targets 100 units built during fiscal 2026 and 10,000 cumulative operating hours across healthcare, care facilities, manufacturing, logistics and hotels. ZEALS calls the robot 'quasi-domestic' rather than fully Japanese: world-class components are bought in, while the AI, software, control, assembly and the deployment work for Japanese sites are led at home. The maker does not publish who supplies the underlying platform; industry reporting points to a Chinese-built chassis, which is worth noting because the same class of hardware became unavailable for new authorisations in the United States a week before D1 went on sale.
